I Would Be A Tree

I would be a tree,
roots anchored deep and stretching wide,
taunting the wind,
swaying with the wind,
supple, pliant.

When I grew stiff,
and the wind could not have his will with me,
I would call on lightning to strike me down
and on rain to soften me.
When I had learned of dissolution and of merging,
children would sprout from my body.
